What Types of Dermal Fillers Are Available?
Dermal fillers, also known as injectable implants, soft tissue fillers, or wrinkle fillers, are FDA-approved medical device implants sent under the skin to restore volume and youth. They are used to treat facial wrinkles and folds, and can also be used to add volume to lips, cheeks, and other areas of the face. During these treatments, a gel-like substance is injected into the treatment areas to provide results that can last for months at a time. Below are the incredible types of fillers we offer.
This is a popular anti-aging treatment that can be used to add volume to the skin. It is made from hyaluronic acid, or HA, which is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and is responsible for bringing moisture to the skin. Our supply of it decreases as we age, which leads to more coarse, dry skin. HA is also important for our body's production of new collagen, the protein that keeps the skin supple and perky.
There are several versions of this hit product available. Vollure works on moderate-to-severe folds for up to 18 months, while Volbella's thinner formula makes it ideal for subtle treatments that last for up to a year. Voluma is specifically designed for filling the cheeks and can last for an incredible two years.
One of the newer options on the market is quite exciting because of its formula. RHA products are different from others because they are designed to mimic the natural movement of the skin. This means that they can be used to create very natural-looking results. They're still also made from hyaluronic acid. They have been designed by Revance Aesthetics, a biotech company working to redefine and elevate the patient experience.
As with Juvéderm, different RHA products afford patients different results. RHA 2 is designed to treat perioral lines, which are the fine lines around the mouth, and when used in higher doses, radial cheek lines. RHA 3 has been designed to soften nasolabial folds and wrinkles that run from the corners of the mouth. RHA 4 works similarly, but against deeper lines.
Why Do I Struggle With Static Wrinkles?
There are a few reasons why you may struggle with static wrinkles, which are the wrinkles that are permanently on your face even if you're not emoting. As mentioned above, we naturally produce less HA and collagen as we get older, which causes volume loss so the skin sags and folds. Unfortunately, some lifestyle factors can speed up this process. For example, spending time in the sun, consistently smoking and drinking, or consuming a poor diet can wear down the HA and collagen in the body faster.
Another reason is that your skin may be dry. When skin is dry, it doesn't have enough natural oils to protect it from the environment. This can cause the skin to become irritated and lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Another reason you may struggle with static wrinkles is that you may not be getting enough sleep. Sleep gives your skin a chance to repair itself from damage caused by exposure to the sun and other environmental factors.
What Will My Treatment Be Like?
Initial Consultation
This process always starts the same way, which is that you'll come in for a chat with a member of our expert staff. We will assess your skin's condition and talk through your cosmetic goals to determine which type of filler is best suited for you. We will also ask about your medical history and any allergies you may have. Be sure to disclose any medications you are taking, as some can interact with dermal fillers. This consultation will also be your chance to ask any questions.
Your Treatment
You will be asked to remove any makeup or skincare products you have on your face. Your treatment provider will clean your skin and will use a numbing cream to minimize discomfort. Once your skin is prepped, your provider will inject the dermal filler into specific areas of your face using a fine needle. Many patients report they can't feel a thing! The injection itself is rather quick, but you may need to stay still for up to 30 minutes while the filler settles into place.
Is There Downtime Needed Afterward?
Patients love that there's little to no downtime associated with any of these treatments. They can immediately carry on with their lives, heading back to work or continuing to run errands. We will give you some aftercare instructions following treatment, but they will be minimal and only required for 24 hours afterward; things like avoiding flying in a plane, facial massages, working out or avoiding extremely high temperatures. You will not need to come back in for multiple sessions, unless suggested, instead return when the full effects have worn off.
Enjoy Soft, Radiant Skin for Months on End
No matter which kind of treatment you decide to go with, you can rest assured knowing it can get your smooth, soft skin with fewer wrinkles and a gorgeous glow. Treatments are always minimally-invasive, require little or no downtime, last for months at a time, and perhaps best of all, administered by a member of our highly skilled staff. If you are interested in using dermal fillers to improve your appearance, we at Nurse Jayme Aesthetics in Andover, MN, can help you.
